APDL INVESTS IN ELECTRICAL SUPPLY FOR SHIPS AT THE RÉGUA QUAY
APDL will promote the electrification of the Régua wharf, following the pilot project implemented previously at Leverinho, to supply the so-called OPS (Onshore Power Supply) to one of the busiest wharves in the waterway, an investment of around EUR 300,000.
The implementation of this project will enable ships to berth at the Régua quay with their generators switched off, eliminating, during this period, emissions of pollutant gases and the respective noise associated with their operation.
In the words of the Chairman of APDL, Nuno Araújo, "This is an important step towards decarbonisation and improving the quality of life of the populations of the Douro region, particularly Régua."
The project provides for the reformulation of the water and electricity networks for the Régua quay, enabling the power supply and water supply for hotel ships and other vessels operating on the Douro River.
It is planned to interconnect the management system for the supply of electricity and water (by wharf/location) with the RIS Douro as well as a graphic interface (SCADA) for monitoring, control and management of electricity and water supplies (in real time), enabling the management of electricity and water consumption and remote maintenance.
The objective is to improve access to the respective services in a swifter and more intuitive manner, complemented by an increase in locations, given the movement of the respective pier.
It should be noted that in 2019, before the pandemic, the movements at the Régua pier recorded more than 400 port calls, representing ship/ship movements at the pier during the summer months of embarkation/disembarkation.
