Leixões presents the first electric truck in port operation
APDL today presented the Eco-Truck, the first electric truck that will be used daily in the operation of the Port of Leixões and that is another step towards the decarbonization of its activity.
The Eco-Truck project is part of the Roadmap for Decarbonisation and Energy Transition, aiming for carbon neutrality by 2035, following APDL's Sustainability Operational Plan, which is based on a set of measures to reduce the environmental footprint of the port activity.
In his speech, Nuno Araújo, chairman of APDL, said that "Today is not just another day. It is one day less to achieve a better future for the Port of Leixões, Matosinhos and Portugal. And it is time to be united for progress and committed to the future of all. With the future of Leixões and the future of the planet."
The Mayor of Matosinhos, Luísa Salgueiro said "Transport is, together with agri-food, the most decisive determinant in the objectives of sustainable development to which we are committed. It is not even compatible to reduce carbon emissions without a profound change in the logistics model, still based on highly intensive transport in fossil fuels, and this action of the APDL Decarbonisation Roadmap is particularly symbolic for the community. "
It should be noted that APDL is reconfiguring the road mobility associated with the port, both heavy and light vehicles, as a way to reduce pollutant emissions. We remind you that at the beginning of the year the circulation of EURO I, II, III and IV heavy vehicles was forbidden, and that a protocol was signed that defines the new access and transit conditions for light vehicles to the port of Leixões, to be in force from 2022.
